You know, the guy is not too off the mark here. Thing is, how does the U.S. get that broad based international support and co-operation necessary, especially after the foreign policies that have been implemented in the Middle East over the last fours years by the present administration?
The U.S. has to radically change it's thinking and policies regarding the whole Middle East. It must start taking a more of a assertive role in regards to the Israeli/Palestinian conflict. The recommendations as laid out by the ISG report is a good start. That would involve putting pressure on both parties, especially the Israelis. That would involve redefining the relationship between the U.S. and Israel. That is the only way that would work.
Then, there is Iraq. Again, the ISG report listed practical and reasonable steps that the U.S. ought to take in that regard. Considering the facts on the ground and the extenuating political circumstances in the region, it would seem to be the most viable option in dealing with that tragic situation.
